I just love the earthbound enemies xD
"Spiteful Crow," "Unassuming Local Guy," "New Age Retro Hippie," "Tarritorial Oak Tree," "The Huge Pile of Puke" to name a few.
In fact, there's a few clever touches.
The gold-dig in the desert was based on one he actually went on, for one thing. (They found nothing during the dig.)
I also heard recently from a "Game Theory" Youtube video [link] that the "Happy Happiest" cult might've been loosely based on an actual real-life cult (called "Aum Shinrikyo" wich roughly translated means "Great Truth," or "Divine Truth") that originated from Japan during the '80s, and '90s.
They might be right with that theory, though I always believed that the happy happy cult is based on the Cu Clux clan, but it seems like it's only their robes and head coverage that are based on them.
And yeah, I think that's part of the games' appeal, and why it's become such a huge cult-classic video game. It's got alot of depth to it. I hope someday they rerelease it somehow.
In my opinion it's a big pity that many people never happened to play the game. I mean Earthbound didn't even reach our shores here. (Europe) And it barely had success in the USA either, because they had the worst marketing strageties ever. x___x And I am "totally not" referring to the genius slogan "this game stinks"
I really wish Nintendo would remake of the game series or something. Since they are doing a lot of remakes now like LoZ: Ocarina of Time and others, why not make a remake of MOTHER as well?
